Planning meals and shopping with a grocery list are essential steps to avoid food waste. Creating a meal plan is the first step in reducing food waste. Start by assessing what you already have in your pantry, fridge, and freezer. Next, list the ingredients you need to use and incorporate them into your meal plan. Then, plan your meals for the week, considering any events or activities that may affect your schedule. Finally, consider factors such as the number of people you are feeding, their dietary needs, and your budget.

Once you have your meal plan, it's time to create a grocery list. Use your meal plan as a guide to determine what items you need to purchase. Be sure to include ingredients for each recipe and staples like bread, milk, and eggs. Avoid buying more than you need, which can lead to food waste. Instead, buy only what you will use for the week.

When creating your grocery list, organise it by category, such as produce, dairy, and meat. This will make it easier to navigate the store and ensure that you remember everything. Also, use a reusable shopping bag to reduce plastic waste.

When shopping, remember expiration dates and buy items that will last the entire week. Choose things in season, as they are cheaper and have a longer shelf life. Consider buying in bulk for items you use frequently, such as rice or pasta, as this can save you money in the long run.

Once you have finished shopping, store your groceries correctly to ensure they last as long as possible. Keep your fridge at the correct temperature and store items in the right compartments. Freeze any items that you won't use in the immediate future, such as meat or bread.
